When to go

The best time to visit Sri Lanka is between November and March, when the weather is ideal for both cultural exploration and wildlife viewing. During these months, most regions experience their lowest temperatures and minimal rainfall, creating perfect conditions for visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites, going on safaris, and enjoying the island’s scenic highlands and coastline.

January and February are particularly favorable, offering dry days and comfortable temperatures across the destinations featured in this expedition. Expect daytime highs of 89°F in Colombo and Negombo, 84°F in Habarana, and cooler conditions in Nuwara Eliya, where temperatures range between 68°F and 49°F. Wildlife-rich areas like Yala and coastal regions like Mirissa also enjoy pleasant weather, with averages between 70°F and 89°F—ideal for safaris and whale watching.

While Sri Lanka enjoys a warm, tropical climate year-round, visiting during this window ensures the best travel experience, with clear skies and fewer chances of rain, especially in the rainforest regions.
