The Sahara, three Atlas mountain ranges, Imperial cities, and the Atlantic coast will all be explored on this excursion, putting you in intimate contact with locals and nature.

Several UNESCO sites are included in the expedition, and deep cultural immersion is assured: you will meet the various Berber groups that populate Morocco, as well as the Sahrawi desert nomads, a unique ethnic group formed by a mix of Berber, Tuareg, Arab, and black African ethnicities who maintain their unique cultural traditions.

Itinerary in Brief

Day 1 
Arrive in Casablanca:

Casablanca is Africa’s largest port and Morocco’s commercial capital. You will find that all the ambiance portrayed in famous films still charms and delights visitors. After you are met at the airport, we will take you to the Le Doge Hotel, which is located in the residential AnfaDistrict. The hotel is close to the Boulevard de la Corniche and other famous landmarks. The Le Doge is a Relais & Chateaux property, offering great lodging and gourmet food.

Your Senior Expedition Leader will provide you with a detailed pre-departure briefing that will help to make the journey more meaningful, then it will be a welcome dinner at Rick’s Café, built in remembrance of the café where Sam played it again.

Day 2
To Fes via Meknes and Volubilis

Explore Morocco’s cultural and historical riches through a journey from Casablanca’s Hassan II Mosque to Meknes’ grandeur, crafted by Sultan Moulay Ismail. Witness Volubilis’ ancient Roman ruins adorned with stunning mosaics and vibrant birdlife. Conclude the day with a feast in Fes and a restful stay at Palais Amani, a luxurious Riad nestled in the heart of the city’s Old Town.

Day 3 

Fes

Embark on a cultural immersion in Fes, beginning with a tour of the ramparts followed by exploration led by local guides. Highlights include a visit to the 14th-century Madrassa, bustling food markets, and traditional craft workshops. Indulge in Fes’ renowned cuisine for lunch before exploring a converted palace museum and the historic Jewish quarter, including a 17th-century Synagogue visit, offering insights into the city’s rich heritage.

Day 4

Through the Middle Atlas Mountains to Midelt

Embark on a scenic journey from Fes to Midelt, traversing the Middle Atlas Mountains. En route, explore Imouzzer de Kandar and its Berber community, with birdwatching opportunities at Lake Dait Aoua. Discover the university town of Ifrane and Berber town Azrou amidst lush forests. Engage with local Berbers before concluding the day at Taddart Hotel in Midelt, where dinner and accommodation await, offering a glimpse into authentic Moroccan hospitality.

Day 5
To the Sahara

Embark on an awe-inspiring journey over the High Atlas Mountains, witnessing picturesque villages and snow-capped peaks en route to Tafilalet, the royal family’s ancestral home. Traverse the Ziz valley’s dramatic gorge, passing fortified villages and lush oases, ideal for photography. After lunch, venture to the Merzouga dunes in 4×4 vehicles, followed by a camel ride at sunset to the exclusive Deluxe Bedouin Camp, offering a luxurious desert experience amidst the Sahara’s vastness.

Day 6

Life on the Sahara

Experience the mesmerizing Sahara Desert sunrise, capturing its beauty through photography. With a Berber guide, traverse the dunes on camels or by 4×4 to Tanamouste village, engaging with seminomadic Berber families to learn about their culture. Enjoy lunch with a local family before exploring the desert further by 4×4. Return to the private desert camp for tea and witness a vibrant sunset over the dunes. Conclude the day with a candlelit dinner and traditional music in deluxe tents.

Day 7
Draa Valley

Embark on a journey to the volcanic mountains of Sarhro, marveling at their rugged beauty and searching for ancient fossils amidst deep gorges. Enjoy lunch in Nekob, at the start of the lush Draa Valley, renowned for its abundant date palm oasis and diverse agriculture. Experience the valley’s vibrant orchards, rose farms, and date harvest, offering a stark contrast to the desert landscape, before continuing your immersive adventure through Morocco’s diverse landscapes.

Day 8 
Journey to Skoura Valley via Ouarzazate

Embark on an enchanting journey through the Draa Valley, where ancient Ksars and Kasbahs reveal Morocco’s rich cultural heritage amidst stunning natural beauty. The drive through the Tinifift Pass offers panoramic mountain views and intriguing rock formations, perfect for contemplation and photography. Arriving in Ouarzazate, explore traditional Berber artifacts and herbal remedies before indulging in a delicious Moroccan lunch. Continue to the verdant Skoura Valley and discover the luxurious oasis of Kasbah El Kabbaba, where every moment is an immersion in Moroccan hospitality and elegance. Savor exquisite meals and unwind amidst lush gardens, creating memories of relaxation and indulgence in this timeless setting.

Day 9
Discovering Kasbah Amridil and Local Culture.

The day begins with a visit to the iconic Kasbah Amridil, immersing ourselves in the historical beauty and architectural splendor of this well-preserved site.
The highlight of the day is a cooking class with a charming local family, offering an authentic experience of traditional food preparation and a delightful lunch. Ladies will have the opportunity to partake in henna painting, adding a personal touch to the cultural exchange.
We return to Kasbah El Kabbaba to relax and savor another exquisite dinner, reflecting on the day’s unique
interactions and learnings. (B, L, D)

Day 10
Across the High Atlas Mountains to Ourika Valley

Begin your day with a visit to Ksar Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and historic caravan point. Traverse the High Atlas Mountains, reaching the Tizi N’Tichka Pass at 7,000 feet, before descending to the scenic plains. Journey through diverse landscapes, from gorges to mountains, until arriving at the stunning Ourika Valley. Your final stop is the exquisite Bab Ourika hotel, offering unparalleled views and an immersive experience in luxury and Moroccan hospitality.

Day 11
Ourika Valley

The bird-graced hotel gardens will provide us with a morning walk after breakfast. An easy 1.5-hour walk is scheduled along the valley, allowing us to meet some local people, learn about their traditions and culture, and look for wildlife such as painted frogs and green woodpeckers. Our stroll will continue to the local town to visit the weekly market, where you will find local crafts and spices and other regional specialties.

Your Expedition Leader will then take the group further up the valley to enjoy lunch at a unique and beautiful spot. After we return to Bab Ourika, you will have the remainder of the afternoon to rest, use the hotel pool, or simply enjoy the beautiful hotel gardens and outstanding views. Try the traditional scrub followed by a massage – Hamman – before getting ready for dinner.

Day 12 & 13
Marrakech

We drive from Ourika to Marrakech early in the morning for a full tour of the famed Medina, comprising historic structures and world-famous markets.

We will also explore the surrounding areas and famous gardens. Free time has been included for personal exploration and shopping.

Our nights will be spent in a centrally located “Riad,” a tiny but comfortable boutique hotel that provides easy access to Medina’s highlights. On the 13th, we had a top-notch Moroccan goodbye dinner.

Day 14
Marrakech – Fly Home, or Continue with the Coastal Morocco Extension.

You will be taken to the airport for your return flight to your home or continue with the extension.

Day 14
To Coastal Essaouira

Depart Marrakech for Essaouira, stopping at a women’s cooperative to learn about Argan oil production. Discover Essaouira’s relaxed ambiance and rich history as a trading hub since Phoenician times, under Portuguese and Muslim rule. Explore the city’s blend of Portuguese and Moorish architecture, marked by vibrant blue hues. Join a guided tour of markets and artisan workshops, witnessing skilled craftsmen at work. Immerse yourself in Essaouira’s artistic community and diverse cultural heritage.

Day 15
Essaouira

After breakfast, we’ll take a short journey south from Essaouira to Tizi Village. We’ll be able to see some of the rare bird species during our trip through the Argan forest. We will get the opportunity to visit a rustic Berber market in Tizi, which will be full of a diverse range of items and furniture from the local settlements.

Our next stop will be at Ounarra, where the expedition will stay at the Val d’Argan Wine Estate. The 30-acre estate, owned by the family, was founded in 1994. We will have a wine tasting of red, white, and rose wines produced by the winery. Lunch will be served on the roof terrace, which has a panoramic view of the entire estate. We’ll drive through the beautiful thuya forest back to Essaouira. We’ll be on the road for around three hours overall.

Day 16

Essaouira / Oualidia / Casablanca

After breakfast, embark on a scenic seaside journey starting at Bhibih fishing village, known for its shorebirds. Explore Safi Town, once a Portuguese post, famous for its unique ceramic workshops. Continue to picturesque Oualidia with its stunning beach and oyster-breeding lagoons. Enjoy lunch in El Jadida’s medina, another historic Portuguese hub. Travel along the coast to conclude the day in Casablanca, experiencing the diverse coastal culture and landscapes of Morocco.

We will finish our day with a farewell dinner.

Day 17

Casablanca / Fly Back Home

After breakfast at the Le Doge, you will be driven to the Casablanca Airport and assisted with check-in for your flight home.

Located in the most extensive dunes of Morocco, this outstanding camp will provide a fantastic experience during your stay in the Sahara. Riad Caravane 

Caravane is located in the midst of the little village of Ait Boulmane, 1 km from the Unesco World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou Ksar, and 30 kilometers north of Ouarzazate along the ancient caravan route. 

Its location makes it the perfect site for departure for all kinds of excursions.

The Caravane project was established in the center of the village’s ancient Kasbah, which was rebuilt in traditional adobe style.

Tizin Ouirgane

Riad Al Maha is hidden away among the former royal stables of the Kasbah, the city’s oldest and most historic area.
