Day 2

Madaba, Nebo, and the Dead Sea Trip

After breakfast, we will travel to Madaba, which has been called the City of Mosaics. The Madaba Archaeological Park is dedicated to the stunning Roman ruins in the area and the preservation of the mosaics found throughout Madaba. The St. George Greek Orthodox Church is unique in that the mosaic there does not feature local geography but rather a mosaic map of Israel created in the 4th Century. Following this visit, we will travel to Mt. Nebo, where Moses gazed at the Promised land, and you will also be able to view, as he did, the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and parts of the Holy Land. Moses is thought to be buried on Mt. Nebo.

The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth and is our next destination. Due to its high mineral and salt content, there are no life forms in the Dead Sea outside of some bacteria and algae. However, the waters of the Dead Sea are thought to contain medicinal properties, and the spot has become attractive to those seeking health or beauty treatments. Queens Cleopatra and Sheba are considered to have availed themselves of the waters to preserve their beauty. Due to the Dead Sea’s high salinity, it’s accessible to oat, so be sure to come prepared to ‘take the waters and mud’ while visiting here. Afterward, we will return to our hotel.

Overnight at Four Seasons Amman Hotel. (B, L)

Day 3

Jerash, Ajloun, and Umm Qais Tour

The ancient city of Jerash is first on the morning itinerary. The human occupation of Jerash dates back nearly 10,000 years, and the town contains Magni cent Roman ruins, rivaling those found in Italy. You will be able to tread on colonnaded Roman streets and visit the Temple of Artemis, the Nymphaeum, and the Oval Plaza. It would not be di cult to picture Roman men, women, and children walking the streets or visiting the temples.

Strategically located on a hilltop, Ajloun Castle commands a view of the surrounding countryside. Constructed in the 12th Century to deny invaders entry to the Jordan Valley, the castle has been enlarged, destroyed, and rebuilt. In a reasonably ruinous state, Ajloun still o ers interesting architectural points as well as a Magni cent view.

Once known as Gadara, Umm Qais is a ruined Greco/Roman city that was once part of a Roman commercial network. This site o ers panoramic views of the Golan Heights and the Sea of Galilee. As the day draws on, we will return to our hotel in Amman for the night.

Overnight at Four Seasons Amman Hotel. (B, L)

Day 4

Petra Tour

After breakfast, we will have a tour of Petra, the biggest attraction in Jordan. Petra was rst established in around 6th century B.C by the Nabateans, a nomadic tribe who settled in the area and laid the foundations of a commercial empire that extended up to Syria. Upon arrival, you will begin the trip on horseback to the canyon, the so called Siq, and then by foot to the most beautiful monument: the Treasury. Among other monuments you will see are the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs, and Pharaoh’s Castle. After the tour, we will drive 2.5 hours back to Amman hotel to overnight.

Overnight at FourSeasons Amman Hotel (B, L)

Day 5

Flyback home

Who will be the last day of your Jordan expedition package? And after breakfast, you will check out by noon. Depending on your tight schedule, we will transfer you to Amman’s Queen Alia Airport for your departure.

World-renowned and legendary archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass will be our Guide during our special access to the Great Sphinx Enclosure.

Dr. Zahi Hawass is the former Egyptian Minister of Antiquities and Director of Excavations at Giza, Saqqara, Bahariya Oasis, and the Valley of the Kings.

Dr. Hawass has made multiple significant discoveries, including the Tombs of the Pyramid Builders at Giza and the Valley of the Golden Mummies at Bahariya Oasis. He has discovered two previously unknown Old Kingdom pyramids, one near the Great Pyramid of Khufu at Giza, and one belonging to a queen of King Teti at Saqqara. Also, at Saqqara, he rediscovered the pyramid of Queen Khuit.

Dr. Hawass led the search for the tomb of Cleopatra and Mark Antony, enriched the search for the so-called “hidden doors” inside the Great Pyramid, and launched a new excavation under the Nile River’s waters, searching for missing obelisks and statues.

One of his most significant research efforts is the Egyptian Mummy Project (EMP), which allowed him to identify Queen Hatshepsut’s mummy, those of the family of King Tutankhamun, and solved the mystery of the murder of Ramesses III.

Dr. Hawass is a great communicator, which took him to become Egypt’s face on most documentaries about the land of the Pharaons. He will spend quality time with NPE expeditioners At the Sphinx!

Intimate Upscale 7-night Small Ship Nile Cruise

Eyaru Dahabiya Nile Cruise

Seven nights cruising the Nile onboard the most upscale small Dahabeya

Dahabeyas made their appearance during ancient Egypt. These sailing luxury boats were build to pleasure celebrities and royalty.

Our Dahabeya, Eyaru, is limited to 12 guests accommodated in 6 elegantly decorated cabins. In it, everything is handmade, down to every plate and carpet. You’ll feel the Egyptian spirit in every room you enter, with a different design in each, all reflecting the true meaning of Eyaru.

You will get to live the local experience to its fullest. After local market visits, and at least twice during our cruise, you will get to enjoy cooking classes that showcase superb local recipes.

Eyaru’s premier feature is its large air-conditioned pergola that closes o on the sundeck’s part by glass and has a central heating system for cold weather. There is no need to stay in the indoor lounge during the cold months and miss the picturesque scenery of the Nile during your stay. That’s why Eyaru is the only Dahabiya that goes back to back from Luxor to Aswan.

Eyaru has no motors; it gets dragged by a launch from a distance, so you never feel any disturbing sounds or vibrations during your trip.

Eyaru is, without doubt, the best Dahabeya sailing the Nile today, and NPE has chartered it exclusively for its Guests.

Note: In case the expedition has 6 or fewer guests the Nebyt Dahabiya will be used.
