Desertica Hotel – San Pedro de Atacama

por | Articles, Chile, Destinations

Located in the heart of San Pedro’s Old Town, Hotel Desertica is roughly a 5-minute stroll from the main square. This wonderful hotel is known for its commitment to environmental sustainability and local cultural heritage. Built in a former farm home and orchard, it has been fully renovated and decorated using local eco-friendly materials, such as solar panels and raised pathways that stop soil erosion and preserve the area’s traditional irrigation systems. Only the dining/bar area has a second floor that is (open-air), making the majority of the property a single-story building. This is a fantastic idea because it enables guests to partake in outdoor meals or beverages in the shade or the sun.

Nights in the desert may be cold and tough. Firepits are located near the common areas to ensure that guests experience the best of Atacama without suffering.

The rooms, or “Turi,” pay homage to the native Atacameño (people of the Atacama) and are designed after local patterns. The bungalow-like buildings have thatched roofs and adobe walls on the outside. However, the interior design gives the rooms a nice modern touch. Both the Standard and Superior categories offer private bathrooms, a fireplace, a ceiling fan, and organic bathroom amenities.

Desertica Turi’s are the best option to unwind and disconnect after a long day full of adventures.

To avoid harming the environment and flora, all the pathways connecting the reception to the rooms, café, and swimming pools are built from native stones.

The lovely swimming pool and sun deck are also visible from the bar, both very tempting! A small selection of hot meals are also available at Hotel Desertica; Café Desertica is an excellent place to have a freshly made sandwich, pizza, salad, or snack. The free use of mountain bikes is another feature we value. These are a fantastic way to view San Pedro—and, if you’re feeling up to it, even some of the Atacama Desert!

Each area of the Desertica is intended to elicit a different feeling and to engage with the local way of life.
